In an emergency teleconference of the Institutions of Higher Learning Board of Trustees, the board accepted the resignation of interim MSU President Vance Watson amid the controversy surrounding the landscaping of IHL Commissioner Tom Meredith’s Rankin County home. Watson’s resignation is effective immediately and he will retire from the University effective Oct. 31. To replace Watson the IHL has tapped Dr. Roy Ruby, a longtime MSU vice president who retired in 2004, to lead the university as interim president until the MSU presidential search produces a candidate.
IHL Board of Trustees President Amy Whitten said Ruby “was a natural choice” as interim president of MSU.
