Tips for freshmen from Reflector staff

.)         Take the north grand entrance returning to your new home away from home. If you are indeed true maroon, coming over the hill to that glorious scene will give you chills every single time.
.)    Get lost one good time in downtown Starkville. It will only last about two minutes, and it’s the only way you’ll learn the shortcuts and back ways.
.)         Eat Zoca’s Nachos. They will make you cry tears of tex-mex joy.
.)      Don’t be annoying. Just don’t.
.)         Turn off your alarm clock after the second time.
.)         Don’t ask stupid questions in class because contrary to what people say, they do exist.
.)         Don’t have two jobs and take 16 hours.
.)     Always sit down before you sleep to collect your thoughts and get your ducks in a row.
.)         Don’t be an art major if you can’t draw.
.)      Wear deodorant.
.)       Wash your clothes so you don’t smell like a wet towel.
.)      Shoes are overrated. And we have really good grass. That’s all I’m saying.
.)      Go to the refuge at night and look at the stars, or go during the day and hammock.
.)      Throw a Frisbee on the Drill Field at night.
.)      Go to every football game, rain or shine.
.)       Try out every sporting event. You will be surprised by how exciting and entertaining every MSU sport is.
.)      Hang out in the Left Field Lounge during baseball games.
.)      Go to Snowbiz.
.)      Get involved with a campus ministry.
.)      Go to open mic night at Dave’s Dark Horse Tavern. Better yet, if you are musically inclined, perform.
.)Visit the Chapel of Memories late at night. Play the piano, even if you don’t know how.
.)      Go for a jog from campus through the Cotton District and downtown Starkville early in the morning.
.)      Climb the Junction tree. Or at least try. It’s possible.
.)  Have a picnic on the Drill Field at sunset.
.)      Sit under the pecan trees and watch the Famous Maroon Band practice weekdays at 5.
.)      Ride the drunk bus. You might meet a friend.
.)       Take a nap everywhere. You need to sleep, so take advantage of benches, couches, trees and empty classrooms.
.)       Take a class with Hank Flick.
.)      Risk your life on the bike course at the research park.
.)  Frolic in the rose garden.
.)      Stop by Dr. Goodman’s office and ask him about the old days of photography.
.)       Sit in on a random class. You might learn something.
.)      Hubris is not a good thing.
.)      LAB RATS!
.)Get weird on the Drill Field.
.)      Tell Ole Miss to go to hell as much as possible.

.)      Never pass down a random questionnaire.
.)      Eat the lamb pizza at Dave’s.
.)      Drive the speed limit down Stone Boulevard.
.)      Go to the Magnolia Film Festival. It’s fun, and you get to see a variety of films you normally wouldn’t.
.)      Join Twitter. It will give you a lot of information about what’s going on in Starkville and on camps. Just don’t tweet during class. Professors hate that.
.)      Update your resume consistently. It’s overwhelming to ignore it for three years, then attempt to throw everything on it in a rush to get a job.
.)      Read for fun.
.)      Don’t get in a habit of skipping class. It really isn’t worth it.
.)      Take advantage of the Sanderson Center.

.)    Do not hang out with the same people you went to high school with all of the time.
.)   Take pride in this university and discover the best way for you to give back to it. Invest in this place and in your fellow Bulldogs. You won’t regret it.
.) Watch “Lost.” I don’t care if it’s old. It’s AWESOME.
