you learn about history in school
about wars
about bombs
how countries stole other countries
but they never teach you how people loved
it’s about how people fought on fields
not for each other’s hearts
it’s about how soldiers marched
not how two lovers walked
it’s about how statues crumbled
not how love was built
I want to learn your history
I want to know your atomic ways
your corrupted states
your bills, your constitutions
your rising empires and
falling kingdoms
I want to study your battle plans
what you will plot next
place me here, in the line of
fire
so you and I can be
written about
in the history books.
