After an 89-71 loss in the team’s first exhibition game MSU’s Lady Bulldogs look to rebound against a very talented Adidas Premier squad in the team’s final exhibition game of the season. The Bulldogs fell 89-71 to the Houston Jaguars in the team’s first exhibition game.
The Adidas Premier team boasts players from several SEC schools as well as former top players from the WNBA.
“They are very quick and hard to guard,” said head coach Sharon Fanning. “They play a well balanced game.”
MSU hopes that a hard week of preparation will help eliminate the costly mistakes from last week. Poor defense and questionable shot selection contributed greatly to the team’s defeat. The Bulldogs will also continue to look for the right combination of minutes and players in the post to get better execution under the basket.
“We have to do a better job executing our half-court game, for both offense and defense,” said Fanning. “We’re still working on fundamentals in practice. Our system isn’t fully in place with this team yet.”
Injuries continue to hamper the Lady Bulldogs who will have three starters see limited action, if any.
Doceide Warren, bothered by a hamstring, is still listed as day-to-day and most likely will not play Friday night but does hope to be ready for the team’s first regular season game at Baylor.
Junior guard Tan White will also be questionable for Friday’s game. White re-injured her pulled quad this week in practice. Mamie McKinney (injured knee) is back at practice but will play limited minutes.
After two off season surgeries, ACL reconstruction and shoulder surgery, sophomore guard Blessing Chekwa will be ready to play.
Fanning said good crowd support is important to the continued improvement of the Lady Bulldog program.
“We really appreciate the Fanning’s Fanatics and what that group had done (in terms of attendance),” said Fanning. “We have recruits coming in this weekend and need to show them some enthusiasm.”
Tonight’s game tips off at 7 at Humphrey Coliseum.
