About Us

The Reflector, Mississippi State University’s student-run newspaper, was founded in 1884 and is the oldest college newspaper in the SEC. We publish a print issue and online articles every Wednesday during the school year.

We are dedicated to serving the Mississippi State student body as a reliable and honest news source and to lifting up the student voice. We are also committed to seeking justice and truth in the community.

The Reflector is funded solely through advertising revenue, making it both fiscally and editorially independent of MSU. The student editorial staff decides The Reflector’s contents.

The Reflector is made up of four sections:

  • News provides MSU students with information about important things that are happening on campus and in the community.
  • Life and Entertainment lifts up and features local people and culture and serves as the voice of students regarding entertainment and media.
  • Opinion gives students a chance to express their thoughts and be heard on different topics that are important to them and the student body. Opinions expressed in The Reflector are the opinions of our readers and staff writers. They do not reflect the opinions of The Reflector.
  • Sports highlights and provides commentary on Mississippi State athletics and club sports.

Jobs writing and creating art for The Reflector are open to students from all majors, and applications can be found at https://reflector-online.com/jobs/.

The Reflector staff is always looking for ways to better serve MSU students. If you have a story idea or a way that we can improve, we would love to hear from you at https://reflector-online.com/ideas/.

We also accept letters to the editor, which can be sent by email to our editor-in-chief at [email protected] or by mail to The Reflector, PO Box 5407, Mississippi State, MS. Letters must include name and contact information for verification purposes. The editor reserves the right to refuse to publish a letter.
