A shooting in Starkville’s Cotton District late Saturday night during Super Bulldog Weekend left one person injured, according to the Starkville Police Department.
Officers responded around 11:49 p.m. on April 25 to Maxwell Street near Lummus Drive following reports of a shooting, the department said in a news release issued on Sunday.
The victim was transported by air for additional medical treatment. Authorities did not release the victim’s condition.
Two individuals were taken into custody in connection with the incident. Police said all individuals involved knew each other prior to the shooting. No additional details about the suspects were released.
The shooting occurred during Super Bulldog Weekend, one of Mississippi State University’s busiest weekends of the spring semester. Starkville drew crowds Saturday morning to the Cotton District for the Starkville Dachshund Derby, and the night ended with the third-largest on-campus attendance in NCAA baseball history at Dudy Noble Field.
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities said additional information will be released as it becomes available.
