Most people would probably agree the Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi must go. It is clear the majority of people want Gaddafi gone. Many people are not satisfied by the way our country is going about doing this. Some are satisfied with President Obama taking matters into his own hands instead of going through Congress. Obviously, others are not.
I think the movement in Libya wouldn’t have progressed if it hadn’t been for foreigners trying to help them. In fact, it would have collapsed very quickly. Gaddafi is evil, and he must be taken down. You are a dictator if you are against your own people. The situation in Libya is like that in other countries America is against.
Many people are for the air strikes that have been directed toward Libya.
Some think we should have a different strategy.
The president has said Gaddafi has to go. However, he hasn’t said much about the strategy he will take to achieve his goal. I am sure his goal is to protect the Libyan population from a dictator.
This goal is shared by the United Nations and other countries who are involved in helping. I don’t think there is a situation in which America can see Gaddafi keeping his power. If he kept his power then we would have to try and get him out. I wonder sometimes if Gaddafi even have a heart.
If Gaddafi were to remain in power, many people think he would get revenge on his own people. It would be like home-grown terrorism. And this idea isn’t that far-fetched because he has done it before. That’s one reason why many countries want him gone so the past can’t be repeated.
We have to make sure our strategy is effective enough to get Gaddafi to leave. In other words, it needs to be foolproof.
Many people don’t want our military to get involved in Libya’s situation; others don’t have a problem. There is a no-fly zone enacted in Libya and that really ticked off Gaddafi.
The plan to stop the dictator seems to consist of targeting tanks and carriers. I think they actually hit Gaddafi’s compound even though he wasn’t in it. No one knows where he is.
Gaddafi sometimes says he will issue a ceasefire, but we are not gullible. We won’t listen to him because he has reneged in the past. I hope this mission in Libya ends quickly because we have other missions that need our time.
We want to weaken Gaddafi. We want to take away all the advantages he has over those who are against him. His people have been crying out for help. And now they are getting it.
They wanted the no-fly zone. The rebels have said if they got it then they would be able to help their chances in taking out Gaddafi.
Many of the rebels aren’t armed like Gaddafi’s crew. They don’t have much training or experience. And many of them aren’t confident in their abilities to be able to defeat him.
One thing the United States can’t do with our involvement in Libya is make it ours. We shouldn’t come out and say we are the leader of this situation. We should be seen as a helper. I am a big supporter in our country taking the lead in most situations, but sometimes we need to be there without being loud.
I am glad we are helping them out. I also think if we had tried to help too soon then we would have looked like we do too often.
People would’ve seen us as policing the world when we just want to help those who deserve help. I just hope we do the right thing and get the job done soon. The cause is not lost and we must keep our objective in mind: to get rid of Gaddafi.
