Four years ago, Mississippi State Bulldog Charles Cross became a Seattle Seahawk, and on Sunday, he was named the Super Bowl LX champion.
The sixtieth Super Bowl took place on Feb. 8 in Santa Clara, California, in Levi’s Stadium, where Cross represented MSU on the big stage.
Cross, a native of Laurel, Mississippi, played at MSU as an offensive lineman from 2019 to 2021. He entered the 2022 NFL Draft after his redshirt sophomore season and was picked by the Seattle Seahawks as the No. 9 overall pick.
This may have been Cross’s first Super Bowl, but the Seahawks have a history with the infamous game. The team has made four appearances in the Super Bowl, with their first win being the 2014 Super Bowl during which they defeated the Denver Broncos 43-8. Sunday’s 29-13 victory against the New England Patriots marked the team’s second Super Bowl win.
During this year’s Super Bowl, Cross played all 72 offensive snaps, being a huge asset to the Seahawks, ultimately leading them to win it all. Heading into the game, Cross had the second-best pass blocking grade and fourth-highest overall grade amongst the linemen in the 2026 playoffs.
Throughout his four seasons under the Seahawks, Cross has had 3,852 snaps, not including the Super Bowl.
The 2026 Super Bowl was not a close scoring game, as the Seahawks beat the Patriots by 16 points. Cross was the Seahawks’ starting left tackle in this game, along with in 14 other games this season.
The Seahawks scored a field goal in the first quarter, a touchdown in the second, an additional field goal in the third and two touchdowns alongside a field goal in the fourth quarter to close out the game. Their defense held the Patriots to two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, which was the only time that their opponent put points on the board.
Super Bowl LX hosted Bad Bunny, a Puerto Rican rapper and singer, to put on the traditional halftime show.
Starting in 15 games this season, including the Super Bowl, Cross is one of the more influential players on the Seahawks team. He has earned a total of $21 million while in Seattle. He also recently signed the largest contract that has ever been awarded to a non-quarterback in Seahawks history, which was a four-year $104.4 million extension.
The Seahawks have now handed the Patriots their sixth Super Bowl loss, setting a record for the most Super Bowls lost by a team.
Cross attended Laurel High School and was listed as the No. 1 prospect in all of Mississippi. He committed to Mississippi State in December of 2018, and the rest was history. During his time at Mississippi State, he racked up many honors, such as the 2021 First Team All-American, 2021 First Team All-SEC and 2020 Freshman All-SEC. He was also the 2021 Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame Kent Hull Trophy winner.
Many college football players dream of making it to the NFL, but even bigger, making it to the big stage — the Super Bowl. Cross was the only Mississippi State alum in this year’s Super Bowl, but the forty-first player to represent MSU across all Super Bowls. In the last seven years, a former Bulldog has played in six Super Bowls.
