With the holidays around the corner, many people are looking for sweets, goodies and more. The Frosted Fork, a bakery recently opened on Aug. 1 in Starkville, covers those desires for a sweet treat or snack with a plethora of options for everyone.
When customers first step in the door at The Frosted Fork, they are greeted by sweet, wonderful employees and the usual customers, and they can ponder which of the shop’s variety of options to try.
Taylor Massey, owner of The Frosted Fork, listed off the many sugary options available, including cupcakes, brownies, Rice Krispies treats, cinnamon rolls, chess squares, lemon squares, cookies, doozies and Oreo balls. Some of Massey’s favorite treats are the Rice Krispies treat and the chocolate chip doozy. The doozy features two salted chocolate chip cookies with cream cheese icing in the middle.
For those who want something more savory, The Frosted Fork also sells casseroles, garlic biscuits, chicken salad and pasta salad.
Massey is not new to the bakery scene or the Starkville area. She is a graduate of both Starkville High School and Mississippi State University. For around ten years, Taylor has also owned a bakery in Columbus called Taylor Made Cake, near New Hope High School.
Massey said that it has always been her dream to open a bakery in Starkville, but that it was a long process to find the perfect spot.
Over two years ago, Massey began looking for a location, but could not find anywhere at first. One day, a friend and coworker came to the local hair shop beside what is now The Frosted Fork, and the spot beside it was up for rent.
“She sent me a picture, and I was like, you’ve got to be kidding, because from the day the biscuit shop was no longer here, I was like ‘that’s the location. That’s where I want to be at,'” Massey said.
Massey also emphasized the importance of being patient and not rushing things when opening the new bakery.
“We did not push anything. We called to get the process started as far as rent went. We just had to make all the appropriate phone calls to the right people to see what it would take to get everything open and started,” Massey said. “Thankfully, I already had experience on what I needed.”
Now, that second bakery is already busy offering all sorts of tasty treats. Becca Jones, a baker and cashier at The Frosted Fork, recommended the Salted Caramel Brownie cupcake and the Strawberry cupcake.
The Salted Caramel Brownie cupcake is very rich in flavor while maintaining a good balance. The icing and salted caramel mix well with the cupcake — not too sweet, but just right. The mini brownie on top is the finishing touch, making the cupcake extra special.
The Strawberry Cupcake is good too, with a natural strawberry flavor that beats other brand-name cupcakes.
Carrington Ashford, a Starkville native, spoke about some of her favorite items she likes to get as well.
“My favorite things at the bakery are probably the regular brownies, confetti cupcakes and salted caramel cupcakes,” Ashford said.
Ashford also said that she tries to limit herself to a bakery visit once a week, but working up the street makes that difficult to do.
The Frosted Fork has already gained recognition from others in addition to Ashford. DJ Skip, the DJ for Mississippi State football and basketball, recently reviewed all of the cupcakes The Frosted Fork offers on Instagram and TikTok.
Whether you have a craving for a sweet tooth or a salty meal, The Frosted Fork has you covered. The bakery is located at 104 S. Washington St. No. 3, and their Instagram can be found @thefrostedforkstarkville.
