The dynamic tennis duo of Luiz Carvalho and Jose-Carlos Pinto took two of three matches at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville last weekend.
Carvalho and Pinto picked up wins on both Friday and Saturday of the tournament, while their lone defeat came on the closing match of their weekend in Florida.
In the tourney opener, Carvalho and Pinto defeated Florida standouts Vladimir Obradovic and Ryan Sherry 8-2.
The MSU netters then defeated the South Florida team of Marc Jager and Andreas Maroldt 8-6.
On the closing day of the tournament, the duo lost against the University of Miami’s Josh Cohen and Eric Hechtman. While both Bulldogs fought heartily, it just would not be in their favor.
Despite the loss on the final day, head coach Sylvain Guichard said the effort of his payers pleased him.
“We had a pretty solid weekend overall. We had some good wins and some positive things emerge,” Guichard said. “We want to build on those things as we continue the fall schedule.”
The next event the two will pair up in will be the Southern Collegiate Invitational in Athens, Ga. The tournament will take place Sept. 24-27.
