Students voted for their 2004 Homecoming Court and Mr. and Miss MSU representatives Tuesday. Adam Telle and Jeannie Waller were elected to serve as Mr. and Miss MSU.
Emily Miller was voted 2004 Homecoming Queen. She is a human sciences major from Drew. Miller was sponsored by the Panhellenic Council, and she is president of Order of Omega. She is also a member of Student Dietetics.
Serving on her court are senior maids Lauren Marsh and Joshualyn Johnson, junior maids Kelly Whatley and Angela Jones, sophomore maids Jenny Hester and Amy Clark and freshmen maids Amanda Howell and Nadia Maston.
Miller and her court will ride in convertibles in the Homecoming parade sponsored by the Alumni Delegates Oct. 8. Immediately following the parade, the girls will be formally announced to the student body at the pep rally in the amphitheater.
“We have invited all the Homecoming Queens from the past 40 years to come to the pep rally,” said SA Activities Coordinator Jennifer Glaze. “The Queen and her court will accompany the former queens at a reception following the pep rally.”
The Homecoming Court will take a brunch tour Oct. 9 to the six sororities and several different colleges on campus.
“After the brunch tour, the girls will be able to enjoy a reception for them and their families and other distinguished guests at the Hunter Henry center,” Glaze said.
The Homecoming Queen and court and Mr. and Miss MSU will be presented at halftime during the MSU vs. University of Alabama-Birmingham football game Oct. 9.
Glaze said that the Homecoming queen and court members had to be sponsored by an organization on campus. Mr. and Miss MSU candidates were not sponsored by an organization. Any senior may fill out a form of intent to run for Mr. or Miss MSU.
“Mr. and Miss MSU are students that represent the traditions and history of Mississippi State,” Glaze said. “They were elected strictly on their career at MSU.”
Telle, a communication major from Northport, Ala., serves as Student Association president. He was elected Mr. MSU by six votes over friend Lamonte Stamps.
“Lamonte Stamps is my executive assistant and one of my best friends. Everybody was deserving on the ballot,” Telle said.
Waller is an English major from Jackson and serves on MSU’s Panhellenic council, is a Road Runner student recruiter, a member of the SA and vice president of membership for the Order of Omega. She is also a member of the University Honors Program and the President’s honor roll.
“It is such an overwhelming honor to represent the student body this way,” she said.
“It’s great to see students coming out and voting,” Telle said.
