One local coffee shop is proving that there’s more to Starkville nightlife than the bar and movies routine.
Since opening in March 2002, Big Daddy’s Espresso Etc. coffee shop on Main Street has given students and locals a laid back environment to hangout in.
Being one of the few businesses in downtown Starkville staying open until midnight, Big Daddy’s has become a haven for students wishing to study late. With the combination of caffeine and soothing music, Big Daddy’s is drawing students and study groups out of the library and into their coffee house.
Big Daddy’s employee Jay Cain said business is “greatly determined by the school schedule, we do get a lot of students that come in to study.”
Studying is not the only thing customers go to Big Daddy’s to do. The coffee shop also has board games and magazines on hand.
“We have had people bring in instruments and just play, it adds to the atmosphere,” Cain said.
Big Daddy’s can make a wide range of drinks for coffee lovers, as well as for those who aren’t. They can make everything from the ever-popular mocha to specialty Italian sodas to their very own coffee concoction, the Cool Daddy.
The flavor soda depends on the customer. They have flavors ranging from vanilla to marion berry, which is very similar to blackberry.
They also offer specialty libations, or alcoholic coffee beverages.
“We can make any hot drink a cold drink,” said Mayra Jerez, also an employee of Big Daddy’s.
