On Sept. 11 we wept as a nation because around 4,000 individuals died. They were innocent with nothing but their families on their minds, but this is something we will never know. We mourned their deaths, yet we slaughter more than 4,000 unborn children every day. Without a doubt, these beings are innocent. There is not any dramatic footage, but it happens nevertheless. Every individual has a choice in life. In this case, the choice involves what some people consider murder.
On Jan. 22, President George W. Bush addressed participants of the March of Life on this same subject and what stand our government should take.
First, the president thanked them for their commitment-a commitment that has lasted the past 30 years. It takes a lot of passion to pick up and drive to our nation’s capital to march for something you believe.
Then, the president stated that the “goal of our nation (should be to) set a great goal that unborn children should be welcomed into life and protected by law.”
It’s strange to think that we haven’t wanted to protect our children sooner.
Next, the president stated what many of us feel: “A compassionate society will defend a simple, moral proposition; life should never be used as a tool, or a means to an end.”
Your life is never as important as the life you are responsible for.
Overall, I firmly support my president in this effort to defend and support the “most vulnerable members of our society.” I only wish that we could all see this issue as clearly.
