Campus celebrates Spring

Dealing with all of the schoolwork during the final weeks of spring semester can be a stressful time for any Mississippi State student. To ease the stress, MSU  students might want to consider taking a break from studying for a while today to attend the Campus Activities Board’s annual Spring Fling from 4 to 6 p.m. Besides students, MSU faculty and the residents of Starkville are also encouraged to attend the Spring Fling. The intramural fields will be filled with numerous activities where people can hang out with their friends and relax.
The Spring Fling was created to celebrate the coming of spring so students could calm themselves outside and enjoy their time on campus before summer. Students can enjoy their time at the small carnival-like atmosphere with music, free food, activities and games.
Some of the main attractions for students are a mechanical bull and inflatables. Students will also have the chance to tie-dye their own T-shirts. Also, students will have a chance to get some ink with air-brush tattoos. Live music will be performed by John Milstead from Tupelo, Miss. Lakeside Place will be passing out giveaways to the attendees.
When not running around the intramural field to participate in one of the festivities at the Spring Fling, the students can sit down and enjoy the food provided by CAB. Students can have unlimited soft drinks, snow-cones, popcorn and barbecue provided by the Little Dooey. All of the food that will be provided is free for the general public.
Originally, the Spring Fling was scheduled to be held last Tuesday but was canceled due to the bad weather. Jalesa Parks, CAB executive council member, said it really did not affect the planning of the Spring Fling much, however.
“We did have to contact someone else for the mechanical bull, but everything else has turned out fine,” said Parks.
Planning for the spring fling has been a year-long process. Several of the attractions that will be at the Spring Fling were given to CAB at the request of MSU students.
Lacey Johnson, CAB executive council member, said, “Putting on this event is partly about listening to what the students want to see at the Spring Fling. We put this event on for them, so we want to know what they would like.”
