Tonight at Ptolemy’s bar in
the Cotton District, Yesternight’s
Decision will be performing
from 10:00 to 1:00. Yesternight’s
Decision is not a stranger to playing
in the Starkville area, since it
has made numerous performances
in the Cotton District. The band
has also played at music festivals
in Tuscaloosa and Memphis.
During this week, its song
“Dying Wish of a Living Man”
was released for download on
Rock Band Network for Xbox
360 for $1. Yesternight’s Decision
contacted the people at Rock
Band in hopes of promoting the
album. There will be a contest
for Rock Band where the first
five groups who top Yesternight’s
Decision’s own top score on
expert level will be given the
band’s debut album Enough to
Follow Through.
One can either record themselves
playing it or take a picture
of the score then send it to
the band at yesternightsdecision@
yahoo.com. Upon the winner’s
request, the album can be autographed
by the band.
Even though the name sounds
like it came from an English
class daydream while reading
Shakespeare, it emerged from
something else. While the band
members were with one of their
friends who brought up a sentence
with the word yesternight
in it.
“The use of the word yesternight
was so intriguing that it
became part of our name,” said
Blake Wall, vocalist and guitarist.
Even though its main influences
are Breaking Benjamin,
Tool, and Chevelle, the band frequently
plays covers of pop artists
like the Backstreet Boys and Ace
of Base.
“We have learned that people
really like singing familiar pop
songs even if they were from
a previous decade. Also, playing
numerous songs has helped
improve our own playing abilities,”
said guitarist and vocalist
Whitney Mackey “our diverse
setlist is very beneficial to the
crowd and to us.”
For the students out there, all
of the members of Yesternight’s
Decision view school as a value
of importance. All of them are
students or have graduated from
Mississippi State.
Bassist Bradley Bishop said,
“We try to view school as a focal
point of life. The band is just
a hobby to us. We all try to
make our schedule to where we
have morning classes then we will
meet up in the afternoon.”
The band as a whole has a
wide variety of majors from computer
science to forestry. Three
years ago, Bishop and Wall met
during the week before school
while playing basketball at the
Sanderson Center. After hanging
out and playing Guitar Hero 2,
Bishop revealed that he was an
expert at the game.
Wall suggested that Bishop
learn how to play bass since the
band needed a bass player while
the band was just beginning.
Bishop took everyone’s advice
even though they had played
before their years in high school.
The band later switched to Rock
Band after it came out for the
band to play together as an outlet
of relaxation.
If one is interested after or
maybe during the show they can
buy the band’s merchandise at
the door.
The band’s debut album
“Enough to Follow Through”
will be at a discounted price of
$5. One can get a t-shirt for $12.
However, there is a special $15
package that includes a cd and
t-shirt.
