The Mississippi State Bulldogs are preparing for the SEC Tournament like their postseason lives depend on it &mdash and they do.
The Dawgs are in Nashville hoping for a repeat as tourney champions, and that is likely the only way they make it into the NCAA Tournament.
Three-time National Defensive Player of the Year Jarvis Varnado and MSU’s all-time leading 3-point shooter Barry Stewart will lead the Dawgs in the attempt to win three games in three days and earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
If MSU comes up short in Nashville, they will likely find themselves playing in the NIT (National Invitational Tournament), which could possibly mean home games at The Hump over spring break.Coach Rick Stansbury has been clear his team does not want to settle for the NIT, but unless they raise the tourney trophy on Sunday, they will likely have to.
Come Sunday, all will know the Bulldogs’ fate when the 65 participants are decided by the selection committee. Through the entire SEC Tournament and the duration of the Dawgs’ time in the NCAA or NIT Tournament, The Reflector will keep you up to date on all the action through reflector-online.com, Twitter, Facebook and on the new SportsReflector Blog.
