    Multiple Dawgs finish in top 10 at Bengal Invite

    Mississippi State’s women distance runners claimed five of the top 10 finishing spots in the mile run in Friday’s Bayou Bengal Invitational in Baton Rouge, La.MSU’s women also took three top-five spots in the 3000-meter run held at LSU’s Carl Maddox Fieldhouse.
    In the mile run, junior Annie Falor was MSU’s top finisher, placing second with a time of 5 minutes, 6.99 seconds. Sophomore Michelle Corrigan posted a personal best time of 5:11.08 to finish right behind Falor in third.
    Senior Mina Thorstenson placed fourth, while sophomores Brittany Detzel and Nicole Rosetti finished sixth and ninth, respectively.
    In the 3000-meter run, Falor took home top honors, posting a time of 10:05.11 to take the win.
    Corrigan followed right behind Falor once again, finishing second at 10:10.24 minutes.
    Thorstenson was the last MSU finisher in the top five, taking home fourth place.
    Sophomore Abbey Graham posted a personal best time of 2:21.35 minutes in her 800-meter run to place third.
    In the sprints, freshman Laquinta Aaron continued the impressive streak she began last week, taking home the win in the 200-meter dash with her time of 24.98.
    Freshman Wendy Copeland established new career marks in both the triple and long jump competitions.
    In the long jump, she posted a jump of 19-2, while she scored a jump of 39-3 in the triple jump event.
    In the throwing events, MSU was lead by sophomore Emily Sanders, who registered a throw of 51-3 in the 20-pound weight throw to place sixth in the event.
    Senior Nicola Wilson scored a throw of 49-1 in the same event.
    “Annie Falor had another great day, and I thought Wendy Copeland had an outstanding day, having personal records in both her events,” women’s head track coach Al Schmidt said. “Today was a much better day than last week.”
    Schmidt and the women’s track team will take a two-week break and return to competition Feb. 9 in the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
    Following that meet, they will compete in the Southeastern Conference Indoor Track Championships Feb. 23-25 in Lexington, Ky.
