The student body here at Mississippi State University needs a leader who will be an advocate for them. They need a leader who will represent the student body to the best of his ability. One who will truly serve their needs. I sincerely feel that I would be the best person for that job. From serving as an Orientation Leader to being President of the Black Student Alliance, I have a strong foundation in representing and serving students. This position would mean so much to me because I love truly this university and I would love to be the voice of the 16,000+ students that make up this GREAT institution. My first priority, if elected, would be to make sure that the student voice is heard and that we are well-represented in major university decisions.
I will continually strive to make sure that this institution continues to grow and maintain its student friendly environment. With much dedication, I will work to ensure that Mississippi State University progresses to become what our President, Dr. Foglesong, envisions us to be…One State, One Team!
Aaron Rice
Presidential candidate
I would like to serve you as your next SA President because I love Mississippi State, and I want to be a part of making it better. I believe in ‘Enriching the STATE Experience’ for all students. The most important part of this is outreach. The SA cannot be the voice of the students if the SA does not know what the students want. I plan to reach out to all students and find out what you want from your Student Association by conducting regular student polls and surveys. I also believe that student activities are one of the most important aspects of an enjoyable STATE experience. I want to promote student activities by prioritizing funding for student organizations that are passionately serving students. The quality of our STATE experience is also dependent on a positive relationship with the city of Starkville. I plan to actively and openly engage city officials about student interests, seek city support for the best Bulldog Bash ever, and expand the Night Route to reach apartments as well as campus. I hope that you will support these positive changes at Mississippi State by voting today for Aaron Rice for SA President.
Caroline Adams
Vice presidential candidate
February 20 Election day. This time last year I never thought I would be apart of the executive staff for the SA. It was a hard decision, but everything happens in God’s plan and I am very excited to be given this opportunity to serve! Senate is something that I thoroughly enjoy and am looking forward to much more! Senate is a great entity and does a notable job in assisting students in anyway possible. Senators have brought about bettering the University through arrangements, academics, or recreational activities, which serves all students!
This year is going to be very exciting! I am looking forward to working with senate, cabinet, and many other organizations on campus. One of my focuses will be to establish events to help support Invisible Children, (program about the wars in Uganda). Throughout this year, Vice President Lee has been a strong influence and has shown me that VP is more than just piloting senate. But is taking the University and students to new levels! I am so excited about being able to work with our new staff and everyone to come! It is going to be a great year full of excitement, challenges, and change!
Nicole Wyatt
Secretary candidate
I have been an active member of the Student Association since my arrival at MSU four years ago. Some of my involvement in SA includes serving as a 2-term Senator and as a former Cabinet director. Upon being elected as your next SA Secretary, I will strive to serve you. I have a great passion for this university and its students, and plan to carry that into my new office. Running unopposed, I have had the time to think about what I want to do as Secretary. Next year, not only do I plan to be a student advocate but I also want to bridge the gap between campus and our community. As a member of the newly formed City of Starkville Student Advisory Commission, a stronger relationship with our community is something that I am very excited about. As a senior PR major, I want to get the word out about everything SA. I want to see every executive race contested and a great increase in voter turnout for each election. We cannot have a Student Association without the students. I decided to run for exec for this reason. I want to see change and be that change.
Braxton Coombs
Attorney general candidate
I decided to run for Attorney General because I wanted to make a difference at Mississippi State. My main duty as Attorney General will be to serve as the constitutional advisor to the Student Association. Along with my duties as Attorney General, I would also like to accomplish a few tasks this year within the SA. I would like to continue to promote student involvement whether it is within the Student Association or any of the 300 student organizations on campus. I believe that student involvement is essential to the success of Mississippi State and that by getting involved students will not only benefit their organization and the university, but it will enable students to have an even better experience at Mississippi State. I would also like to work on the relationship between the SA and the students of Mississippi State. Students should feel that their voice can be heard through the Student Association. It is the Student Association’s job to serve as an advocate for students, to bring students ideas to the forefront of MSU. All students are part of the SA, and they should feel like they are.
