The MSU campus will be bustling this weekend with all of the activities planned for Super Bulldog Weekend. Libba Andrews, associate director of alumni activities, said Super Bulldog Weekend serves as a spring homecoming for the university and the baseball and softball teams.
“It’s our opportunity to showcase what we’re doing here on campus,” she said.
The MSU softball games will be Saturday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. against South Carolina at the MSU softball field, and the MSU baseball game will be Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. against Kentucky at Dudy Noble Field.
The football team will play its spring scrimmage game from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Davis Wade Stadium.
Andrews said there will also be activities for class reunions happening on campus. The classes of 1942, 1947, 1952, 1957, 1962 and 1967 will be recognized at class reunion breakfasts hosted by several of the university’s colleges.
“It’s nice for the alumni to come back to campus for the reunions,” Andrews said. “They get excited about rekindling old friendships.”
This is an opportunity for those who have been away from the campus for a long time to come back and see all the changes that are taking place, she said.
Cooking contests will also take place Saturday, as well as alumni soccer and volleyball matches.
“It’s going to be a good family atmosphere and a good time to be at Mississippi State,” Andrews said.
Marcie Mellin, administrative secretary of the dean of Business and Industry, said the College of Business and Industry would host a breakfast and class reunion from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Wise Center. MSU President Robert “Doc” Foglesong will be the special guest at the breakfast.
“This is our chance to recognize the people that are there from the various classes,” Mellin said. “It’s not going to be really formal; it’s geared toward alumni and friends.”
Daniel Sykes, a graduate student in animal physiology, said he has attended Super Bulldog Weekend for the past four years.
“My favorite part is the cooking competition and the food,” Sykes said. “The ribs are my favorite.”
Sykes said he thinks the baseball team will do well against Kentucky.
“I know we will hit the ball well. It’s just going to come down to our bull pen and how they perform,” he added.
