Jamont Gordon and Charles Rhodes proved their staying power Wednesday night as the Mississippi State Bulldogs (15-7, 6-2 Southeastern Conference) thundered past Alabama’s Crimson Tide 73-66 in the Humphrey Coliseum. The two NBA hopefuls racked up 17 points apiece during the two-hour debacle and stacked a combined 15 rebounds against the Tide. The two-time victory over Bama (13-10, 2-6 SEC) jumpstarts the Dawgs from what would have been their third consecutive loss. It also all but guarantees the team will continue to hold some type of lead in the SEC Western Division.
Barry Stewart had 13 points and nine rebounds on the game, while Ben Hansbrough, who had missed the last three games due to a bout of mononucleosis, racked up 10.
State travels to face the Auburn Tigers (12-9, 2-6 SEC) Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m. Central Time and will be televised on Fox Sports Network.
