Monday, The Lyceum Series will host a Black Violin Concert in the Lee Bettersworth Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.
Black Violin was started by Wil B and Kev Marcus a decade ago. Since starting the group, the two have performed an average of 200 shows a year in 49 different states and 36 countries.
Black Violin has collaborated with big-name celebrities such as P. Diddy, Kanye West, 50 Cent, Tom Petty, Aerosmith, Aretha Franklin and The Eagles. The two also scored an episode of CSI: New York, adapting the finale of Puccini’s “Madame Butterfly” for an on-screen murder.
Amelia Treptow, assistant director of student activities, said she looks forward to the event. She feels as though Black Violin will be a learning experience and a wonderful show for those that wish to attend.
“Black Violin is a classically trained violin and viola duo who infuses their expertise with the hip hop genre. The Lyceum Series is very excited for them to come to MSU,” she said.
Treptow said the event will offer MSU an enlightening experience.
“The annual series offers exposure to the talents of national artists in a variety of performance areas, ranging from music to drama to dance,” she said. “In a broad range of programming, the Lyceum Series is an important part of expanding cultural and educational horizons.”
Allyra Williams, sophomore political science major, said she plans to purchase tickets for the event.
“I think the concert will be a wonderful experience because it will be like nothing I have ever experienced in the past,” she said. “I know the atmosphere will be different and I am looking forward to a great show.”
MSU students can pick up a ticket for free from the Center for Student Activities or at the door. For more information, you may contact Amelia Treptow at 662-325-4041 or visit www.lyceum.msstate.edu.
