Merchandising and Promotions Strategies class to put on Cotton Blend Fashion Show

The Merchandising and Promotions Strategies class, taught by Charles Freeman, worked together, and will present a Cotton Blend Fashion Show on December 1, at 6 p.m. in the Colvard Student Union Ballroom. Admission is free and everyone is encouraged to attend.
The show will be Safari themed, featuring garments made of at least 60% cotton, which are designed and styled by the students who are currently in the program.
The event is designed to promote the use and importance of cotton.  There will be members of Cotton Inc. flying in to watch the show and also to judge the submitted products. Cash, scholarships and other prizes will be given out to the chosen winners.
Lindsey McNair, fashion design and merchandising advisor, has worked very closely with the students to put on the show. She said the fashion merchandising and design students have the opportunity to have hands-on experience with creating, planning and performing a huge event.
“From marketing, stage and venue, designing, creating, styling, decorating and many other responsibilities, we have been given a great opportunity through the trust of our instructors to successfully pull it off,” McNair said.
McNair said this event has impacted both her and everyone else involved in many positive ways.
“So far this has challenged us in many ways with budgeting, communicating and working as a team, staying ahead and moving forward to get this show ready,” she said. “We are certain this is not an event you want to miss and we hope to see everyone there!”
Jamia Brown, junior fashion design and merchandising student, is one of the students involved with the show. She said everyone has put time and effort into the show and she cannot wait to broadcast it to the public.
“I have really enjoyed working and being a part of something so great. It is such an honor to be able to participate and have my named attached to something of so much importance. We have all worked so hard to put the show together and it will definitely show tonight,” she said. “Charles is a great person, and an even better instructor, and using the skills he has taught us will be nothing less than amazing.”
