Mississippi State Softball closed out their 2015 home season with a dominant victory over the University of Memphis.
The game marked the team’s last outing on their home field before receiving a $6 million renovation for the 2016 season. MSU defeated the Tigers 11-3 in five innings, ending their five game losing streak.
The Bulldogs improved their record to 32-16 on the season and 23-4 in non-conference play.
Sophomore Amanda Ivy set the pace for the Bulldogs. She hit a single which resulted in two runs to put MSU ahead 2-0 in the second inning. “We went into the game with a plan that we stuck with,” Ivy said. Fellow sophomore Mackenzie Taylor added to the lead in the third inning, putting the bulldogs up 3-0.
The Tigers put themselves on the scoreboard in the fourth with a two-run home-run, making the score 3-2. The Bulldogs came back on fire in the home half of the fourth. The Bulldogs had a five run inning, advancing the game to a large 8-2 lead. The Tigers came back in the fifth with a single, but it was not enough.
Ivy delivered another two-run hit in the fifth, making it a now 10-3 lead. Then, freshman Calyn Adams delivered a big hit to bring Ivy home, taking the victory of 11-3.
Freshman Cassady Knudsen claimed the start and the win for the Bulldogs in her first career-complete game. She allowed three runs on six hits. “It means a lot to have won that last game that will be played in this stadium,” Knudsen said.
“It was really cool to have been able to play a role in that game.”
The Bulldogs will travel to play another out-of -conference series against Georgia Southern. Game one is set for Saturday at 3 p.m. and game two is Sunday at noon.
