Being a college athlete is demanding. Class in the morning-practice before and after. Athletes wearing maroon and white train hard to represent this university.
Sylvester Croom promised students last week that his team would never embarrass this university on or off the field. Croom’s hiring as head football coach has created a buzz on campus and around the Southeast.
His team will have seven home games to represent Mississippi State, sometimes in front of a television audience.
The football team has practiced in full gear most days in the heat and humidity for several weeks so that they can do their best in a Bulldog uniform.
They aren’t the only ones. The soccer and volleyball teams have new head coaches eager to make this university proud.
The Lady Bulldog soccer players have sweated in the afternoon sun so they can be in prime shape for game time. In a sweltering building with no air conditioning, the Lady Bulldog volleyball team has been working hard, even after practice officially ends, to get better. Countless hours of preparation pile as the reward draws closer.
What’s better than getting to play the sport you love? Getting to play in front of supportive fans and fellow students in maroon and white.
Good crowds energize the home team and intimidate visitors. A lack of a good crowd reflects poorly on the student body.
All athletes deserve support from the student body. The university expects its athletes to make it proud with maximum effort at all times. Supporting the Lady Dawgs tonight will take less than two hours and costs nothing but time.
Don’t settle for just seven football games to show your pride in Mississippi State.
