The Reflector received a face-lift for the fall of 2004. New faces have filled the newsroom with new ideas and the hopes of improvements.
Senior Josh Foreman is leading the new staff as editor in chief.
Former news editor and senior Pam McTeer is now the managing editor.
Junior Dustin Barnes will fill the position of entertainment editor.
Junior Angela Adair is the new opinion editor. Senior Erin Hazlewood is the new graphic designer, and sophomore Alex Diaz is the new photo editor.
Assistant news editor Elizabeth Crisp, a sophomore, has moved to the position of news editor. Jessica Bowers, a sophomore, is now the assistant news editor.
The returning staff members are senior Craig Peters sophomore Courtney Hall and junior Allison Shackelford. Peters is returning as sports editor, Hall as copy editor and Shackelford as ad manager.
“I’m really excited about the job of editor in chief,” Foreman said. “I’m looking forward to having the opportunity to make it better.”
Foreman said he has plans to improveThe Reflector. He would like to clean up the design and incorporate better spot news coverage and photography.
“With the staff that I have, I have a lot of good people returning and I have a new group of really talented people coming on as well,” Foreman said.
McTeer said, “I’m excited about the new responsibilities. I now get to help oversee the content of the whole paper. It’s more of a business aspect.”
Barnes, who previously wrote for the news section, said he is excited about the new opportunities he will have as the entertainment editor.
“As the entertainment editor, I’m looking forward to meeting different bands, the local bar owners,” Barnes said. “Being able to talk to record companies and promotional people is exciting.”
Barnes said he would like to ad a humor column as well as a serious advice column to the section.
Adair said she would like to add more local opinions, variety and discipline to the opinion section.
Returning sports editor Peters said that he knows how to do things now and has learned a lot that he can pass on to the newcomers. He hopes to add some new feature ideas and to continue evolving the sports section.
Crisp said she is excited about the opportunity to play a bigger role in the production of the news section. Both she and assistant news editor Bowers hope to make the news section more interesting to read.
“It’s definitely different in the newsroom, than it is to be just a staff writer,” Bowers said.
“I’m friends with everyone here on The Reflector staff,” Barnes said. “I have a lot of fun. Too much fun to be getting paid for what I do.”
Peters said: “We have a fresh start. We’re going to miss the people that are leaving because it’s been fun to have the opportunity to make memories with these people as we try to capture history on campus. But I wish those who are leaving well on their future endeavors.”
