Students gathered in the warm weather Saturday afternoon to socialize amidst a background of food, fun and favorite tunes. The festivities were part of the annual Crawfest held in front of Rice Hall. The Resident Housing Association and individual dorm associations hosted the event.
Students who came to Crawfest enjoyed pizza, ice cream and games along with the crawfish. Domino’s Pizza, Clark Vending, Brewski’s (crawfish) and Starkville Coca-Cola sponsored the event.
Noble Moseby created the sounds of Crawfest, playing students’ requests as they ate.
The freshman hall associations coordinated the event for the on-campus housing community with an expected 500 students, said Sessums Resident Director Celeste Williams.
“We’ve been planning for this all semester,” Williams said.
“The Crawfest has become a tradition for the individual hall associations. It is the last big event that we plan on hosting for students who live on campus,” said Jessica Jones, a Rice Hall resident assistant.
Freshman Heather Flake said she attended Crawfest for a chance to have some fun in the sun. Even though Flake said she does not eat crawfish, she “enjoyed being out there with my friends.”
“Having the opportunity to socialize is always good. It was a beautiful day and there was plenty of pizza or crawfish to go around,” freshman human sciences major Leanne Thornton said.
Jason King, a freshman chemical engineering major, said he will “definitely” go back next year. “I got to eat about $25 worth of crawfish for free,” he said.
