Junior sprinter Marquis Davis has been honored by the Southeastern Conference as the male track Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced Wednesday.
Also, the men’s indoor track team from Mississippi State earned its highest ranking in school history in the Trackwire.com 25, moving up to fourth.
The two-time all-American Davis received the award after winning the 60 and 200 meters at the Rod McCravy Memorial in Lexington, Ky. The Memphis, Tenn., native’s times of 6.61 and 20.72, respectively, set new McCravy meet and State school records.
Davis is MSU’s first male track athlete to receive the weekly award from the SEC.
In the rankings, the Bulldogs are now ranked behind fellow SEC foes Arkansas, South Carolina and LSU in the power rankings released on Tuesday. All 11 SEC men’s teams are ranked for the third straight week.
The rating of fourth is State’s best indoor ranking achieved and matches the highest ranking the men’s team received outdoors last season.
The Bulldogs compete at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark., Feb. 14-15.
