Zeta Phi Beta will not be the only ones showing off their steps next week. IFC and Panhellenic fraternities and sororities will compete in the Blue and White Week step show Tuesday night. For the first time in Mississippi State University history, the two groups will unite to make the annual Blue and White Week 2002 events even bigger.
“Usually Greeks tend to separate themselves from one another, and this is an awesome way for them to unite instead,” Heidie Lindsey, assistant director of Student Life, said.
The idea formed last semester to get all Panhellenic and IFC organizations involved in the Blue and White Week 2002. In January, members of Zeta Phi Beta invited the Panhellenic and IFC sororities to be part of the step show.
“We have been working with them all semester, and they have been so great to work with,” Zeta Phi Beta social chair LaToya Bledsoe said. “I’m so excited that this is the first time for this show. It’s always great to have something so new and energetic to add to this annual event.”
MSU Phi Mu Lauren Cooper will perform Tuesday night along with many others and said the competition will be so much fun and exciting.
“I’m so glad to be a part of their (NPHC) Blue and White Week; it makes the campus so much more united, in my opinion,” Cooper said.
The show is Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in Lee Hall Auditorium. There is a $6 cover charge to the event to cover costs of the week and security costs.
“When I’ve been to Zeta Phi Beta’s previous step shows, all of Lee Hall Auditorium was packed, so I suggest you get there early,” Lindsey said.
Zeta Phi Beta and brother fraternity Phi Beta Sigma will also be holding a second step show Saturday night at 7 p.m. at Lee Hall Auditorium.
There will be a number of events going on throughout the week, beginning with a blue and white balloon kickoff on Monday. At noon on the Drill Field Zeta Phi Beta and Phi Beta Sigma will lift 1,529 blue and white balloons to mark the beginning of the week-long event.
Other action for the week includes the Blue Bash Pool Party Monday afternoon at College Station, a Blue Ribbon Campaign for violence and abuse in the Union, free lunch on the Drill Field Wednesday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., the Bold and Beautiful Pageant Thursday night and weekend parties Friday and Saturday nights. A Saturday afternoon picnic will also be held at McKee park from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. before the final step show to end the week.
“We hope everyone will come out and enjoy a week full of fun,” Bledsoe said.
