The 2010-2011 Fashion Board models looked fierce walking down the catwalk Wednesday. The models showed off clothes from stores around Starkville while the backstage crew dressed them and did their hair and makeup. The show, located at Cotton District Café, was well put together, organized and obviously a group effort.
Along with the models and backstage crew, there were workers to hand out prizes and even a DJ playing music for the girls and guys to strut to. Their featured attire was from shops such as Wink Fashions, Runway Boutique, Libby Story, Reed’s and other local stores. Fashion Board presented the new looks for fall and winter and even had an entire animal-print style section of the program.
Elizabeth Lucas, sophomore accounting major and first time backstage worker for Fashion Board, emphasized the amount of effort students put into the show.
“We put a lot of hard work into the show, and it turned out amazing. It was so much fun and we all really can’t wait for the next one,” Lucas said.
The room was packed with people and some were lucky enough to receive V.I.P. seats right along the stage. Even owners and workers from all of the different boutiques came to show their support and appreciation.
Kathleen Murdock, a freshman majoring in kinesiology, said people were excitingly talking about “the fashion show at Cotton District Café” for a few days after.
“I really loved all of the clothes that the models wore during the show and I also really liked the show in general. It looked like everyone involved had such a good time,” Murdock said.
This was the general response from the entire audience, and because it was such a success, the Fashion Board is looking forward to more prospective members joining. There are many different aspects of this club, such as backstage hair and make-up, models, photographers and much more. Fashion Board is a great way to get involved on Mississippi State’s campus even if it has nothing to do with one’s major. The people involved with the board have majors ranging from accounting to apparels, textiles and merchandising.
