At 1:29 a.m. Sunday Starkville police arrived to 206 Main St., which is the public parking lot behind State Theatre.
Two people were injured during an assault, Starkville Police Department Detective Eddie Young said.
He said the six individuals involved could face either aggravated or simple assault or no charges at all.
Young said the six male suspects were involved and are all believed to be either Mississippi State University students or recent graduates, according to Starkville Daily News.
The 21-year-old victim had gone to the parking lot to pick up his friend, a 22-year-old who had been out at a downtown nightspot, according to the Daily News.
The 21-year-old heard several voices yelling near where he parked.
He saw that his friend was in a fight and tried to pull his friend out of it, according to the Daily News. In the process, he and his friend were allegedly assaulted.
According to the Daily News, both men were beaten and kicked repeatedly.
Young said an MSU student was identified as one of the victims.
“One [victim] was transported to the hospital with a broken nose, a concussion, severe lacerations to the head and a crushed sinus cavity,” he said. “He will undergo surgery to repair his sinus cavity.”
Young said the other victim was sent to the hospital with a broken arm with severe lacerations to the head.
“Probably, alcohol was the No. 1 cause of the incident,” he said. “That’s where it all starts.”
He said the case is still under investigation and would not release the names of those involved in the incident at the time of production.
“We are predicting that the arrests will be before the weekend,” he said.
State Theatre manager Emilio Garma refused to comment.
