In the back of my mind, I just assumed Gordon would be almost automatic to make it into the “Top Dawg” championship matchup, but I certainly didn’t expect him to be eliminated in the first round by the eighth seed!
For whatever reason it happened, Kriegel is due respect for the victory, and she’ll await her second-round opponent for a few weeks.
Meanwhile, we head to the bottom half of the bracket, and if the first match is any precedent for things to come, the seeding may not make much of a difference. Either way, it’s time for our 2-seed vs. 7-seed match.
No. 2 Justin Pigott

Known primarily as the starting pitcher in the second games in most of MSU’s baseball series last season, Pigott finished the 06-07 season with a 7-7 record with a 4.51 ERA.
Coupled with Chad Crosswhite, who usually started in the first game of each series, Pigott has made a name for himself around the Bulldog campus.
Head coach Ron Polk had so much faith in Pigott, he was bumped up in the rotation to start Game 1 of the College World Series against North Carolina.
Hey, State still lost, but Pigott can still tell his grandkids he pitched in Game 1 in Omaha.
No. 7 Marneshia Richard

Let me paint a picture of what Marneshia Richard means to her team.
At the end of the 06-07 season, Richard was awarded for her work on the court by winning three awards, the most of any player on the MSU women’s hoop squad.
Richard took home the Coaches’ Award, which is considered the team’s MVP honor.
She was also awarded with Most Assists (125) and Best Defensive Player.
Richard notched seven steals in a single game this season, tying the MSU record.
She also attained her first double-double of her career this year as well against South Carolina scoring 13 points and adding 11 assists.
