Vice president of finance and administration Ray Hayes is a student journalist’s best source. He’s also going to another job.
Whenever a writer needed information, Hayes would be willing to help. At times he went to great lengths to help news writers. One writer was surprised at how willing Hayes was to help with a particular story.
Hayes knew that people had the right to efficient information. He knew his knowledge of campus events would give students needed insight.
He accomplished many things during his stay. He oversaw funding for projects like The Union renovation, the new Junction and the paving of the McComas parking lot. He had admirable vision and worked closely with the campus Master Plan. Not only that, but he had a genuine passion for Mississippi State as an alumnus of the university.
But the most striking quality was Hayes’ openness. He was a school official who didn’t seem like he would rather not talk to you. We commend his leadership style, and we recommend that other officials look to him as the example to treat students.
Ray Hayes, you’ll truly be missed.
