The Mississippi State men’s golf team completed play this past week at the Seminole Intertercollegiate, finishing in fifth place in a 13-team field. The Bulldogs shot a three-round 868 at the par-72, 6,965-yard Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Bulldogs were led by freshman Noah Goldman for the second time this season. The Longwood, Fla., native shot a 211 for the tournament including a 68 in the final round to finish in a tie for fourth.
The Bulldogs carded a 221 and tied for 30th. Josh Oller, Matt Fast and Carlos Sainz, Jr. all finished five-over par for the tournament. Redshirt freshman Logan Young shot a 226 and tied for 49th to round out State’s scores.
“We’re real pleased with how we played this week,” MSU head coach Clay Homan said. “Noah (Goldman) played extremely well and finished fourth. I think everyone in the lineup played well at different times this week.”
Trailing by five strokes entering the final round, Coastal Carolina made up the difference with a final round of 286 and won the team title by seven strokes. North Carolina State came in second followed by North Carolina and East Tennessee State. N.C. State’s Stephen Lewton won the individual title.
The Bulldogs will head to Mobile, Ala., on March 13 when they will compete in the South Alabama Classic. The two-day tournament will be held at the Herron Lakes Country Club. Last season, the Bulldogs captured the team title at the event last season, and senior Joe Deraney won the individual title for the Bulldogs.
