Q: What has been your greatest accomplishment in your time at MSU?
A: I really think taking advantage of opportunities in front of me is the thing I’m most proud of. It’s hard to narrow down one group, project, or initiative that I’ve been running after the last four years — I’m happy to say everything that has come before me I’ve taken advantage of, and I’ve accomplished a lot because of that.
Q: What is your favorite aspect of MSU?
A: I’ve loved these last four years; they’ve been really great. Mississippi State is a special place where I feel like these four years have been very important. I feel like I’m preparing to continue to be involved with Mississippi State for life. As I’ve worked with people at State, I’ve realized the possibility for continuous growth and the people that help you along the way are substantially important.
Q: What are some things you have done as Mr. MSU that the students may not know of?
A: We attend every single homecoming event like the chapel service and movie night on the Drill Field. As Mr. MSU, we do those typical things like go around at brunches on Saturday and spend eight hours walking around as the (homecoming) court introducing ourselves and representing Mississippi State throughout the week. We’re very transparent with what we’re up to. It’s nothing secretive.
Q: You do a lot for the university and are involved with numerous organizations, but what would your ideal day look like outside of MSU?
A: My parents just moved to California from Memphis a couple months ago, and I’ve only been able to see them once. My girlfriend and I are going to see them during fall break. So my perfect day, if I didn’t have to do anything, would be to fly out early morning to California and hang out with my parents. They are surrounded by mountains and the activities to do in their area are endless. That’s my ideal day and what I want to do right now, but it’s in two weeks. I hope I can wait. I would love spending the day doing nothing with my parents in California.
Q: You’ve been around a lot of bands and concerts lately, so who is your favorite band or artist?
A: I was blown away by The Black Crowes. They’ve been around for two decades now, and they still got it. They crack me up. They don’t look like some young, cool artists. They’re old guys with beards, and they were awesome. I enjoy that kind of music. They were really fun to watch.
Q: If you could spend a day with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?
A: Ronald Reagan.
Q: What would your walk-out song be?
A: “Lips of an Angel” by Hinder. How great would that be if you walked up to hit a home run and Hinder was playing?
Q: What has MSU meant to you these past four years, and what have you learned during your time here?
A: From my personal experience, I feel like we’ve always been taught that after graduation you need to start taking things seriously, but I do not think that is the most beneficial advice. If you take advantage of opportunities at Mississippi State and find out who you are in college, it’ll make things easier after college. Have as much fun as you can and meet as many people as you can, but also take it seriously. I think I had a well-rounded experience because of my mindset — my grandfather told me that (mindset). I learned that and applied that here at Mississippi State. The resources here at Mississippi State made that an easy task to complete.
