MTV’s 2004 Video Music Awards have come and gone without even the hint of controversy for which it is so well-known, such as the Madonna and Britney moment last year.
However surprises creeped into the night’s activities. Contrary to some of The Reflector staff’s guesses, D-12 did not take home any awards. Other awards proved to have less of a thrill. I mean, who didn’t see Beyonce taking home the Best Female statue? Come on, people.
As for the staff’s guesses, Page Miller once again clarified why she’s the most knowledgeable about music, guessing correctly on all four of her picks.
Elizabeth Crisp and Dustin Barnes both clocked in with two out of four correct choices, while newcomer Ben Mims called one correctly with his prediction for Usher as MTV’s Best Male Video.
The winners of the five biggest awards were:
Best Video: Outkast’s “Hey Ya” took the top honors.
Best Male Video: Usher screamed “Yeah” as he accepted this trophy.
Best Female Video: Beyonce’s “Naughty Girl” showed that bad girls can win awards, too.
Best Group Video: No Doubt took home a moon man for “It’s My Life.”
Best New Artist: Maroon 5’s “This Love” won the prize, showing they will be here for a while.
