I would like to offer my sincerest congratulations to Ryan Starrett for his excellent Reflector article, “Abstinence, self-discipline best way to combat STDs.” Given the near abandonment of moral discipline in huge segments of our society, an article like Starrett’s in a university newspaper leads one to think that there might still be some hope for our society.
In his article, Starrett does an excellent job of elucidating some of the great benefits from chastity (before marriage, of course), as well as some of the most plaguing problems associated with premarital sex-and especially, sexual promiscuity.
As long as we still have a substantial number of members of society who are willing to live up to, and proclaim their commitment to, moral chastity and discipline, we will still have at least some foundations upon which to build a viable social structure and a strong family. I hope that there are many more people among us who subscribe to Starrett’s high moral and sexual standards, and it would greatly please me to more frequently be blessed with the privilege to read articles in this newspaper supporting such lofty and praiseworthy values.
