On Sept. 23, the Oktibbeha County Co-op is hosting its annual Hunter’s Night Out. The outdoor extravaganza has been a great success in the past and the Co-op looks to make this year’s event even more successful.
“This show will cover a sampling of everything,” said assistant manager Rodney Kendrick. “We are giving outdoorsmen the chance to test out the latest and greatest in hunting gear.”
The extravaganza will have over 40 vendors carrying an arrangement of outdoor products. Prominent names such as Pennington, Purina, Wiley Game Calls, Lacrosse, Ducks Unlimited, National Wildlife Turkey Federation, Mossy Oak Biologic and many more will be at the show.
Noxubee Wildlife Refuge officers, local game wardens, John W. Starr Memorial Forest park officials and the manager of Oktibbeha County Lake will also be on hand to give out information and answer questions about local, public land. It is a great opportunity for outdoorsmen to learn more about where to hunt and fish in the area. “Students can benefit from talking to the non-profit booths like Noxubee,” said Kendrick.
“Since many students don’t have private land to hunt on, this gives them the opportunity to ask questions about where they can hunt.”
In addition to a vast variety of outdoor vendors, the show will also give away over $5,000 in door prizes.
Some of the larger prizes will include a Tracker 2-man boat, an ATV disk, a local quail hunting trip and a Weber gas grill. Other small items such as mineral licks and dog food will also be given away.
The show will also allow outdoorsmen to showcase their archery skills. The free contest will have a men’s, women’s and youth division. There will be a practice range for warming up. Participants should bring a minimum of six arrows to the competion. The competion will start around 5 p.m. Contestants should allow themselves plenty of time to warm-up before the competion begins. Remember to bring your A-game because the competition is stiff and the top archers will receive prizes.
Ladies will also have a special opportunity to become a part of a local sector of Women in the Outdoors.
This Columbus-based organization was designed to get women involved in the outdoors. The organization teaches women about hunting, fishing and a basic understanding of being in the woods.
Hunter’s Night Out is a great place for outdoorsmen to catch hunting fever, meet some great people and win a few prizes. Don’t miss out on this event.
