A senior with a major in graphic design and two graduates of Mississippi State University were recognized in national design publications.
MSU senior Eric Stars designed a poster named “Comedy of Errors” that was honored in CMYK magazine. The poster was an assignment given by Jamie Runnells in her advanced graphics class to advertise an event on campus. Runnells suggested that Stars sent the poster to CMYK, a visual communication magazine. The poster ran in its 22nd issue.
Runnells said, “Eric was a great student and always did much more than was expected of him.”
“The poster is one of my strongest posters, but not the best,” Stars said.
Stars also draws the comic strip “1,000,000 Fatal Fables” for The Reflector.
Recent graduate Adam P. Howard won a competition sponsored by HOW magazine.
The magazine selected his project from a collection of 3,000 pieces nationwide.
“Howard was a great student, and his work was beautiful and original,” Mixom said.
Michael D. McDaniel Jr., a 1999 graduate of MSU, entered a promotional booklet in a contest sponsored by Step Inside Design magazine, formerly Step-By-Step magazine.
The magazine honored McDaniel as a Step 100 winner in its bimonthly periodical that recognizes 100 professionals as “Best in their Field” among peers.
Bathology, a company that produces soap with trinkets inside, purchased McDaniel’s booklet as a freelance.
Mixon said she taught McDaniel three classes when he went to MSU.
“He was a great student that won significant awards while in school,” Mixon said.
Stars plans to pursue film studies in graduate school after graduating this December.
Mixon said that McDaniel is interviewing with companies in New York. He also does freelance work in graphic design.
