In the Homecoming spirit, the second annual Door Decoration Contest will be held for anyone to participate in.
The Professional and Support Staff Advisory Council is sponsoring the contest. The contest is a way to get the faculty in on the Homecoming spirit.
In the past, the faculty made different signs in support of Homecoming. The various student associations participated in Homecoming events.
“The idea for the door decoration contest came out of a meeting with various student associations. We were trying to come up with a way to get the faculty involved in Homecoming,” said Julie Berry, associate director of student support services. She was last year’s contest committee head.
“A representative from each building on campus that applied is contacted by the PSSAC. The representative then recruits faculty volunteers to decorate their door according to the theme,” said Lowell Wilson, chair of the staff council of the PSSAC.
This year’s Homecoming theme is “125 years … Let the Good Times Roll.”
Over 40 buildings participated last year, surpassing the expected number of 10 or 15.
The judges for the competition are individuals from the community and university.
The idea has been well received by the president’s office, and many believe it is a good idea, Berry said.
Last year’s winner, Middleton Hall, which houses the Army and Air Force ROTC programs, is looking forward to this year’s competition.
“We’re excited about this year’s competition and we have big plans for our door,” said Lt. Col. Mark McManigal, professor of military science.
Judging will be held on Thursday and pictures of each door will be on the Internet for judging and viewing. A small prize will be awarded to the winner.
