Halloween always brings about once a year opportunities like being able to dress up as something outlandish, visit haunted houses or rent a ton of scary movies.
But the Princess Theatre in Columbus is offering classic cult movie lovers another option, its 9th annual showing of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show.”
A cult classic, the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” has gained popularity nationwide, with many theaters showing the film at midnight.
Rocky Horror is infamous for it’s audience dressing up and participating throughout the movie. The movie has gathered a crowd of some of the most loyal fans in popular cinema.
Audiences involve themselves in the show by throwing rice during the wedding scene, dancing to the Time Warp, yelling out alternate lines to the movie and more.
“Something is always going on, someone is always acting out through the entire movie,” said Neil Repke, owner of the Princess Theatre.
Along with the movie showings, the first beginning at 9:45 p.m. and the encore showing at midnight, there will be two costume contests.
“I have seen the movie before, but I have never gone to the movies to see it,” said Lindsey Smith. “It sounds like it would be an interesting experience to go see it in that environment.”
“I went to a showing of the “Rocky Horror Picture Show” in Memphis and it was so much fun. It is the one time in a movie that you don’t mind if the person behind you talking or throwing stuff. It just adds to the fun of it,” said Jessica Rippie.
The first will be for those dressed for the “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” and the other will be for all other Halloween costumes. The costume contest judging and awards will begin at 9 p.m. Don Culpepper, former WCBI anchor, will be emceeing the event when the doors open at 7 p.m.
The event is being sponsored by Shiner Bock, Pete’s Wicked Ale and Better Brands Distributing.
Tickets will be $5 and there will also be food and drink specials.
