Speed dating game offers new alternative

How would you like to have 10 dates in a matter of a few hours? Campus Activities Board will host a program called Speed Dating in which this will become a reality. “Dating in the Fast Lane” will give an opportunity to singles on campus to meet many people in a short amount of time and to see the chemistry between them.
Speed Dating will take place in the new Dawg House at the bottom of The Union at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 11, just in time to find a valentine. Campus Activities Board advisor Kelly Nesbit said she thought Speed Dating was a fabulous idea for the Mississippi State campus.
“I saw this done on the ‘Today Show’ and on a couple others, and I thought that it would work at Mississippi State,” Nesbit said.
Speed Dating consists of a n equal groups of guys and girls. Each person spends around five minutes with someone of the opposite sex, and each of them get to know each other as much as they can in five minutes.
After each person is able to spend time with every person of the opposite sex, then they will have a time to evaluate each person they spent time with. They rate them as ‘wanting to know each other a little better,’ not ‘wanting to see each other again’, or ‘wanting to pursue a friendship with them’. If the people examining the results notice that two people have made a mutual match, then they will contact each of the people and let them know about the match.
“We’ve had a pretty good turnout so far, but we hope for more,” Nesbit said.
The Campus Activities Board is putting on the Speed Dating program in order to give students some exciting new things to do. CAB just wants to benefit the students and help better students’ lives.
“We try to put on as many things for students as possible, and to make their lives a little better,” Nesbit said.
To support CAB, possibly find a date, meet interesting people and have a few laughs along the way, sign up for the Speed Dating before 5 p.m. on Feb. 11. Speed Dating is open to every Mississippi State student and is free.
Sign up on the Web site http://www.msstate.edu/org/cab/speeddating.html before 5 p.m. on, Feb. 11. The program is free and open to all MSU students.
