New editorial board takes charge of The Reflector

This week, The Reflector welcomed a new editorial board and said goodbye to old friends. Nine of the editor positions were filled by new faces with only two editors from this semester returning for the next.
The names of the new editors and their positions are as follows:
    Wilson Boyd
    Editor in Chief
Boyd, a senior economics major, said, “My goal is for The Reflector to continue serving the students, faculty and staff of Mississippi State by offering quality reporting and commentary. I also want to create an atmosphere of professionalism for the students who work here.”
    Kit Wallace
    Managing Editor
Wallace, a senior communication and Spanish major, expressed her desires for The Reflector in the upcoming year. She said it was her goal for the newspaper to win first place at the Southeastern Journalism Conference next year.
    Heath Fowler
    News Editor
A senior in communication, Fowler was excited about the future of the paper. “I think we have a very talented group of people on this staff,” Fowler said. “I’m looking forward to helping produce a quality paper that our university can be proud of.”
    Pam McTeer
    Assistant News Editor
McTeer, who is working toward a major in communication and Spanish, said, “We are going to miss the editors that are leaving, but I am really excited to work with the new staff and implement its new ideas. My desire is to see the paper move in new directions and to attract more readers.”
    Tony Odom
    Opinion Editor
“I want the opinion section to be the first section everybody turns to, and I want other college newspapers to look at this section to see how it is supposed to be done,” said Odom, a graduate student in the history department.
    Josh Foreman
    Entertainment Editor
“I am planning on putting out a great entertainment section twice a week,” said Foreman, a junior communication major.
    Craig Peters
    Sports Editor
“The sports writers and I are going to tweak our coverage techniques and add lots of fun features and special segments,” said Peters, a senior in sports communication.
“With trial comes error, with error comes correction, with correction comes improvement. It is an exciting opportunity that we greet with enthusiasm,” he added.
    Ben Power
    Chief Designer
Powers, a senior majoring in art, said that he wanted The Reflector to be as interesting visually as it is content-wise.
    Janae Hatcher
    Assistant Managing Editor
A junior majoring in political science and psychology, Hatcher said college media is important since it gives students opportunities to discuss significant issues.
    Courtney Hall
    Copy Editor
Hall, one of the two returning editors and a sophomore in journalism, said, “I am really going to miss everybody from this past year, but I am excited about the new semester and the improvements that will be made to The Reflector.”
    Sam Freeman
    Photo Editor
Freeman, a senior psychology major, is also a returning editor. “I hope we can make some improvements in efficiency, but I’ll be happy if we can turn out papers of the quality we have in the past. As a returning editor I am looking forward to working with a new staff, but I would like to say that I’m going to miss my former co-workers very much.”
“I think we have an excellent staff, and I’m confident that we will be able to publish a newspaper that maintains a high standard of quality,” said Boyd
“What I hope for is that the students, faculty and alumni give us lots of feedback. An active and engaged audience is critical to a newspaper’s sucess.”
The new editorial staff produced this paper and will produce the last three issues of The Reflector remaining this semester.
