Heavy rains could not keep senior Elaine Fagan from celebrating senior day festivities.
Severe storms moved the tennis action between Arkansas and State from the six courts at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Center to the two courts inside McCarthy Gym, causing quite a delay.
Before her match Fagan was anxious, but not distracted by playing the waiting game.
“I can’t wait to start playing and hopefully get a win in my final home match,” Fagan said.
“Playing indoors actually fits my game and my forehand a lot better.”
Fagan defeated Iliana Pachelo 6-3, 6-1 to notch her first SEC singles win.
Teammates Marcelle Hirt, Anastasia Kugakolova and Yumi Ueda were able to post singles wins to guarantee the match for the Bulldogs.
“The team played really well today and that’s all it takes,” Fagan said.
“I was nervous. All I could think about was, ‘Come on. I want to win.’ I’m delighted.”
