Twenty-two members of the Mississippi State soccer team, as well
the entire coaching staff, recently participated in a project for
Habitat for Humanity that provided housing for a needy Starkville
family.
Divided into two separate shifts in late February, the team
engaged in everything from sanding and staining doors and flooring,
to vacuuming and placing door knobs and baseboards. The project was
just one of many that the Bulldogs participate in each season.
“I am very proud of our team and the unselfish attitude they
showed in participating in and completing this project,” said
Mississippi State head coach Neil McGuire. “Helping out in the
community is a win-win situation for both our players and the
Starkville community. Community service is an integral part of the
Mississippi State soccer program, as well as the Mississippi State
athletic department.”
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit,
nondenominational Christian housing organization which brings
familes and communities in need together with volunteers and
resources to build decent, affordable housing.
Since 1976, Habitat has built more than 125,000 houses in more
than 80 countries, including some 45,000 houses across the United
States.
Homeowner families are chosen according to their need; their
ability to repay the no-profit, no-interest mortgage; and their
willingness to work in partnership with Habitat. Homeowners
contribute “sweat equity” and house payments are recycled to build
additional houses.
