Bulldog Baseball grabs a piece of the campus sports spotlight with a pair of fall practice-ending events scheduled this week at Dudy Noble Field. The Diamond Dogs, with five position player starters and 10 pitchers among 17 returning lettermen from last year’s 34-24-1 edition, open their annual best-of-five “Banana Split Series” Tuesday at 3 p.m. on the home diamond.
The 47 players on MSU’s fall roster have been divided for this year’s series, with the losing team treating the winners to banana splits following next week’s series finale.
The series will be contested Tuesday and Wednesday and continue Sunday (Oct. 13) through Tuesday (Oct. 15).
Also on tap at Dudy Noble Field is the annual Maroon-White baseball game, a fall preview of the 2003 squad. The veterans will test the newcomers in this year’s game, which leads off Mississippi State’s Homecoming ’02 activities Friday at 4 p.m.
The Mississippi State fall baseball schedule concludes the weekend of Oct. 26 with the 10th Mississippi State Baseball Alumni Weekend.
A golf tournament and banquet for the returning former Baseball Bulldogs opens the festivities on Saturday (Oct. 26), with the popular Alumni Baseball Game set for a 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, at Dudy Noble Field.
A host of former and current major leaguers are expected to be among nearly 200 former Diamond Dogs returning to campus for the weekend reunion.
All of the fall events are open to the public with no charge for admission.
