Feb. 2, Starkville Arenacross, a night of motorcycle and ATV racing will come to the Mississippi Horse Park Arena. The Starkville Arenacross is an event where motorcycle and ATV racers from all over the South will gather to compete for money, prizes, and awards. The competition will feature both professional and amateur competitors. The professionals will be racing for a $2,500 cash purse, while the amateurs will compete for trophies and prizes.
“Indoor motorcycle and ATV racing consist of off-road motorcycles racing head-to-head over a manmade, dirt course,” Tod Hammock of Cycle City Promotions said in a press release.
The course on which the racers will compete is approximately one-eighth mile in length, and along that course are various dirt obstacles.
“These obstacles can require racers to jump their iron machines up to 70 feet through the air,” Hammock said.
The doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and the main event will begin at 7:30 p.m.
The main event will feature the 14 professionals on the circuit and the amateur qualifiers from previous heats. There is a beginner class, amateur class and the professional class. The racing begins at 10:00 a.m., and the time between 10 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. will be used for the beginners and amateurs to practice and qualify for the events later that night.
The professional motorcycle and ATV racers are part of a traveling circuit touring the South. After the competition in Starkville, they will travel to Tulsa, Okla., Feb. 16 for another competition, and will gather together again MArch 2 for another competition in Amarillo, Texas.
