In an attempt to turn Super Bulldog Weekend into more of a “Springtime homecoming,” event planners and organizers opted to change the weekend-long event into an entire week, from April 1-7. “We just decided that we wanted to expand it,” Mike Richey, assistant athletic director, said.
With the expanded schedule, the athletic department has conspired with several area organizations to create a community-wide event.
The Downtown Business Association, Alumni Association, Visitors and Convention Council and International Fiesta organizers have been meeting informally for several weeks to plan the week-long events.
“We met to make sure we were on the same page,” Richey said.
The group wanted to make sure they did not schedule conflicting events.
Tennessee Valley Authority will also have a part in Super Bulldog Week. TVA is bringing a hybrid electric bus that will run between downtown Starkville and make a campus stop somewhere. Richey said planning for the bus routes are still underway and will be final soon.
Richey said the goal of planners was to create an event that is family oriented. With a wide variety of events planned, visitors, students and residents should not have any trouble finding something to do.
“Everyone can come and have a good time,” Richey said.
