The suspect in the Oct. 18 armed robbery of a Mississippi State University student is now in custody.
The West Point Police Department arrested the suspect, Fred Lester Doss Jr., 27, at 1 a.m. Saturday. The department located Doss at a hotel in West Point based on a crime stopper tip, a press release from the Starkville Police Department said.
Doss was captured without incident or injury to himself or officers, the release said.
Doss was transferred to the Starkville Police Department, where he was booked on charges of uttering forgery, burglary, armed robbery, kidnapping and felonious taking of a motor vehicle. He is being held at the Oktibbeha County Jail.
He allegedly ordered the student, a woman, at gunpoint to take off her clothes, and when she refused, asked her for money. She reportedly gave him her debit card.
He then allegedly ordered her outside and told her to get into the trunk of her car.
She refused and escaped when another car pulled into the parking lot of the Little London apartment complex, where the incident took place.
According to the 2004 Uniform Crime Report published by the FBI, 146 known burglaries and 11 known robberies occurred in Starkville in 2004.
Seven burglaries and one robbery occurred on the MSU campus in 2004, the report said.
