Fans invited to tour Mize Pavilion Saturday
Mississippi State fans who will be on campus this weekend are invited to tour the recently-completed Mize Pavilion on Saturday before the home football game against Louisiana Tech.
The $11.2 million dollar practice facility will be open from 2 to 4 p.m. for fans to get a peek. Visitors will be shown all aspects of the facility, from the weight room to the practice courts and even the coaches’ offices.
The facility, which is named after the Henry Mize Foundation, opened in June. It features 28,900 square feet of court space and over 57,000 square feet in space, overall.
Fall baseball gets underway Friday at 4 p.m.
John Cohen and the Mississippi State Diamond Dawgs will begin fall practice this Friday with a scrimmage at 4 p.m.
All fall scrimmages are open to the public, and there will also be scrimmages on Saturday (2 p.m.) and Sunday (2:30 p.m.).
The Bulldogs are coming off a surprising post-season run that saw them come up just a few outs away from returning to Omaha until they were defeated by Florida in the Gainesville super regional.
The fall squad will consist of 40 players and will feature 16 returning letterman as well as 14 pitchers.
Volleyball hits the road for pair of SEC contests
Mississippi State’s volleyball team will continue SEC play this weekend when it travels to play Arkansas on Friday and LSU on Saturday.
Jenny Hazelwood’s Bulldogs currently sit at 6-5 overall after splitting two home matches in their opening weekend of SEC play. State lost to Florida last Friday in three sets before defeating South Carolina in five sets on Sunday.
Individually, senior middle blocker Hannah Wilkinson is leading the NCAA in attack percentage at .531. Freshman middle Lainey Wyman has made a splash in her SEC debut last weekend, garnering SEC Freshman of the Week honors.
Many Bulldogs have made their way onto the SEC leaderboard. Senior Caitlin Rance’s 4.55 kills per set is good for second in the SEC. Wyman is curently leading the league in total blocks with 48 and third in average blocks 1.14 per set. Paris Perret is fifth in average assists with 10.92 and Bentley Witte is sixth in average digs with 3.92.
Friday’s match in Fayetteville will begin at 7 p.m., while Sunday’s match in Baton Rogue will begin at 1:30 p.m. The Volleyball Bulldogs will continue their road swing the following weekend when they take on Alabama on Sept. 30 and Ole Miss Oct. 2 in game that will be televised on ESPNU.
