The Delta Chi chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity is continuing the process of restoring its chapter status following its revocation last October due to an alcohol-related incident.
The chapter was placed on probation by university officials before having its charter officially removed by the Kappa Sigma national offices in October 2009.
The initial investigation of the Kappa Sigma fraternity began following the events on the evening of Sept. 18, 2009, in which two students were transported to OCH from the organization’s fraternity house. Alcohol violations and underage consumption would later be associated with the event.
Mitchell Wilson, the executive director of Kappa Sigma, said that the fraternity is taking all of the necessary steps to regain its charter.
“The men have been re-installed as a colony and are fully recognized as being in the process of once again becoming a charter chapter,” Wilson said. “They are resolved to returning and are doing outstanding.”
Wilson also said the members from Kappa Sigma made an appearance at a leadership conference, and he sees good things ahead for the group.
Student Association President Thomas Sellers expressed pride in the steps taken by the members of Kappa Sigma in the process of regaining their charter and awaits the return of the group’s contributions to the university.
“I am extremely proud of the student leadership within Kappa Sigma Fraternity and their efforts to continue to be a viable and important part of this campus,” Sellers said. “Without a doubt, Kappa Sigma will continue to be a valued part of this campus by producing great leaders and proud alumni for Mississippi State University.”
Sellers also noted the contributions to the university and community made by Kappa Sigma, both financially and in the form of leadership.
“By giving hundreds of thousands of dollars to it’s philanthropy, producing presidents of the Student Association and leaders in various outstanding organizations across campus and producing thousands of proud alumni for this university, Kappa Sigma’s presence on this campus is very strong,” Sellers said. “Mississippi State University is a better institution due to organizations like Kappa Sigma.”
